One, Two or Three MLM’s??
About 15 years ago and beyond, when someone joined an MLM company and launched their own home-based business… that was it. That was your business. You focused 100% of your energy on that one business… Amway, Avon, Shaklee, or whatever.
Then, in the late 1990′s, a trend began to develop of joing a second MLM, thus creating a “secondary stream of income.” People would join multiple MLM’s that didn’t conflict with each other.
For some people this little trend worked, but for most people, it just about killed any notion of making any money at all. There is a proverb that goes like this:
“The man who chases two rabbits will catch none.”
I know people who joined 2, 3, 4, or more companies. I’m not sure they ever made enough to break even in any of them.
Part of this was the Internet. People thought it would be so easy to just grow businesses left and right, and before long, thousands of dollars would come pouring in from all directions.
That trend began to fade around 2007-08.
In fact, some companies began to enforce some of their terms of service or policies that actually stated you could not join another company and work their company. I know of some top earners in Melaleuca and other companies who got canned because they broke this policy. It wasn’t the company’s fault. The associates knew this, but got greedy and sloppy, and lost it all.
But, there were greater reasons. The economy turned south and people had to trim the fat because there was less money to waste on non-producing companies. People just go tired of this whole “multiple streams of income” crap.
People also got smart (finally) that it was more than a waste of money to have 4 different MLM’s they were a part of. It was also a waste of their time. So much time is wasted switching back and forth between one business to another. It confuses new prospects and they end up feeling like they’re getting the shaft.
But…
…still, I know of some who have pulled it off. I have a couple of friends who are making solid 4-figure incomes from each of their businesses. I have one friend who is making close to 6-figures a month between 5 companies.
They are the exception, and they do not build their businesses in the same way all of these others have done and failed. Many of them build each business separately using methods that very few know how to use, or at least use effectively.
Bottom Line
So, what’s your take?
Do you focus 100% of your energy with one company? 100% of your money, marketing, and effort? Build one large organization.
Or, do you work 2 companies, or even 3? Do you think it is diversifying your income and being smarter with your future?
I would be curious to your thoughts and/or experience. Leave a comment.
